Providing opportunities for all students to thrive in Brookland.
The Village Mission
The Village is a group of parents, community members, partners, advocates, and school-based staff in the Brookland Community in Washington, DC, who believe that each child has the worth, the value and the inherent right to a high-quality education. The Village is committed to engaging with the traditional public schools in our community.
Without reservation, therefore, we will work to:
Provide tools and resources to gain educational opportunities for students and teachers;
Establish sustainable resources to meet academic, extra-curricular and socio-emotional needs of students,
Advance innovation and technology to increase globalization for the community;
Promote, advocate, and celebrate the successes of students and their school community.
The Village Principles
We are a village.
As a village, we have an obligation to build relationships with our neighbors and protect and provide for our children, and that our entire community is strengthened when we are working together for integrated schools.
We value equity.
We understand that equal resources, when access and opportunities are unequal, leave far too many students the inability to flourish. We work to ensure every child, no matter their race, ability, gender, or family income, has the support they need to thrive in our traditional public schools.
We pursue justice.
We believe that high-quality public education is a measure of our community’s commitment to dignity, fairness, and democracy for all.
We are anti-racist.
We believe that all children benefit from desegregation. While our neighborhood is diverse, our traditional schools are not. We work to combat the implicit and explicit biases that divide our community.
We are hopeful.
We approach this work with optimism, joy and urgency to end segregation in our traditional schools to make a lasting impact in our community. Despite challenges, we know that a well-rounded educational experience, a strong learning environment, and a connected and thriving community is the inherent right for every child in Brookland.

“We are each other’s magnitude and bond.”
